In the Digital Spirit

a while back, a friend from Oberlin had suggested a project for someone to record music and liturgy from all the ethnic churchs in Cleveland and post them on the web. cool idea, but him living in Japan, he couldn't follow through.

i brought it up at a couple meeting at my church over the past several months, and then recently, a parishioner brought a video camera, mp3 recorder, and now you can enjoy it right from your desktop.

i found out this weekend that our church is not big. we have about 270 families, and other "small" first ring suburban churches have 900 and don't have enough people to support many ministries. i think of our church as the premier african american inner city church, because we'll so well known for the gospel choir. but with priests not guaranteed to churches with less than 2000 families, it's going to be a tough road in the coming years.

when i first started attending different meetings at church, i was a bit frustrated with all the constant talk of fundraising, that more people didn't just volunteer roles and get things done. but now i realize that they do. to have the extent and depth of ministries that we do (75 lay ministries!) i'm realizing is a sign of how deeply involved the parish is, how connected and committed to one another we are, the fact that someone will just pick up the camera and publish songs on the web. and i sat here doing data entry at work this morning, bouncing and clapping along with my church family. oh how they fill my spirit! thank you for the wonderful ministers you've placed there to work your harvest, Lord!
